Design guidelines
Save the file for booklets as one PDF document with single pages.

Save the file for booklets not as spreads (two pages facing each other), but as PDF document with single pages, starting with the cover page (NOTE: saving as a multi-page PDF means 1 PDF file with multiple pages inside). Delete empty unnecessary pages from the file with the final save. Desired blank pages have to stay in the file.

We recommend using our templates and guides for preparing your print-ready PDF.

You can download our guides and templates in the template section. Remember to delete the template layers before exporting your design to PDF.

If you already have a design, no worries; we accept other file formats, including JPEG, PNG, or EPS.

For photographic content, high-resolution JPEGs are recommended, preferably without compression. For graphics or text-based content, we recommend print-ready, vector-based PDFs. For content that is a combination of graphics and photography, we suggest using print-ready PDFs to ensure the best quality.

Use CMYK as the colour mode.

Prepare your files using CMYK as the colour mode, not RGB. Use colourmode FOGRA39 (ISO Coated v2). If you are unsure of the colour mode of your file, don't worry we can always convert this for you. Keep in mind this can cause the colours to differ from the original file.

Resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Make sure the resolution of the images and graphics in your artwork are at least 300 dpi.

Add 3 mm bleed and keep 4 mm safety margin

During production, there might be a slight cut deviation. To avoid any issues, we recommend the following:

  • Add a 3 mm bleed around all edges of your design.
  • Keep important elements 4 mm away from the edge or folding lines.
  • Avoid using borders or frames on smaller formats like labels or business cards.
Text and fonts specifications (Min. font size is 6 pt)

For this product, the minimum font size is 6 pt. To avoid any issues, we recommend the following:

  • Fonts must be embedded or outlined.
  • If your design contains small black text, make sure it is 100 % black (Cyan: 0 Magenta: 0 Yellow: 0 Black: 100).

Note that we don't check spelling or typographical errors.

Check line thickness.

Lines should be at least 0.25 pt. Negative lines should be at least 0.5 pt.

Check your artwork for overprint.

Make sure no elements in your artwork are set on overprint unless you want this effect in your design. You can read more about overprint in our Help Centre.

Make sure the ink coverage isn't higher than 300%.

Force Colour Images to CMYK with a 260% ink limit (in Photoshop > Convert Colour Profile > Photoshop 5 Default CMYK). Make sure the ink coverage isn't higher than 300%.

Using a border/frame is not recommended

It is recommended to count with a margin of error when stacks of copies are trimmed during the production process. This slight cutting deviation is usually not noticeable, nevertheless, we recommend avoiding adding borders smaller than 20 mm in your design for any product smaller than an A4 (210 x 297 mm). Otherwise, the design might end up looking off-centre.

Frequently Asked Questions: Magazine printing

What paper types can I choose for magazine printing?

When you print magazines with us, you can choose from several paper weights depending on how you want your printed magazine to look and feel:

90 gsm: Our lightest and most affordable option. Ideal for cheap magazine printing and large distribution runs.
110–120 gsm: Slightly thicker and more durable, often chosen when ordering magazines online for everyday use.
135 gsm: A popular choice for business magazines, offering a more premium feel while remaining flexible.
170 gsm: Gives magazines a sturdier, professional finish, suitable for events or presentations.
250 gsm: Mainly used for covers, adding firmness and protection to your printed magazine.

What is lamination and do I need it on my cover?

Lamination adds a thin plastic layer to the cover of your printed magazines. It helps protect the cover from marks, creases and colour fading, while giving your magazine a more durable, professional finish. It’s a smart choice if your magazines will be handled often, posted out or used at events. Without lamination, the cover is more likely to scuff during delivery or distribution. When laminated magazines are packed together, there’s no risk of ink transferring between covers.

Note: Laminated paper products are water-resistant, not waterproof.

Can I select any paper type or weight for lamination?

No, not all paper can be laminated. Lamination is only possible for paper with a Glossy or Matte cover of 250 gsm or higher.

What is the fastest possible turnaround?

The fastest possible turnaround varies depending on the specifications you select, and will always be stated at the bottom of the page. To make sure that your order is delivered at the indicated time, it is important that we receive your file with your design for the product by the stated cut-off time. This way, the product can be moved into production promptly.
Please note: The delivery date shifts a day every time the deadline for submission has passed. This is also the case if the file is rejected by us and corrected artwork isn't submitted before the next cut-off time.

Is the amount of pages equal to the amount of paper sheets?

No. This is because the pages are folded and printed on both sides. A sheet of paper gets folded in the middle so it covers 4 pages (2 on the front and 2 on the back). For instance, when you choose an A4 size brochure with 8 pages, we print two A3 sheets (two times as big as A4) and fold them in half, which results in a total of 8 pages.

Which magazine format should I print?

A4 (210 x 297 mm): The most common format for magazine printing. It offers plenty of space for content and visuals, making it ideal for clear layouts and comfortable reading.

A5 (148 x 210 mm): A more compact option than A4, often chosen for smaller publications such as newsletters or niche magazines. Easy to handle and a good choice for cost-effective magazine printing.

Square format: Custom magazines in a square format (for example, 210 x 210 mm) are increasingly popular thanks to their modern and distinctive look. They work especially well for photography, design or art magazines.

Other magazine formats: If you want something more original, formats like DL, A6 or landscape A5 can help your magazine stand out from the rest.
